Are These The Keys To Success? Part 2: Make A Plan.
It’s time for a disclaimer. We’re not hyper successful, billionaire life-coaches. We’re just people with big dreams. So we’re definitely not trying to teach you how to be successful, we’re just sharing what we’ve noticed, and how it applies to us. We’re going to cover them one at a time; otherwise this post would get very long and rambling (whoops, too late!).
At Growth Rocket, we’re huge fans of positivity. We’ve studied a lot of motivational and inspirational speeches, from TEDX to graduation ceremonies. Once you’ve consumed enough of this material, you begin to see a pattern forming. These successful people are all saying the same thing. They might use different words, but most of them put their success down to the same set of ideas.
This is the second part of this series, you can read the first part here.
What Is Success?
Success is relative, it represents something different for everyone. Maybe you want a Ferrari parked on your drive, or maybe you’d like make enough money from your business so you can quit the rat race. There is no right answer. Whatever success means for you, there’s something you’re going to need to achieve it; and that’s a plan.
Your Plan. Your Goal. Your Vision
To achieve success you have to know where you’re going. I think this is vital, so I’m going to say it again. To achieve success you have to know where you’re going. If you only achieve one thing today, it should be to sit down and imagine where you want to be in the future. Ask yourself; where do I want to live and what do I want to be doing? Spend some time just thinking about these two questions, and then flesh out your answers with details. Pick the colour of the car you want to be driving, look at some pictures of the offices you want for your corporate HQ or the beach you want to live next to. These questions will allow you to create your goals, and from your goals you’ll find your vision for the future. Don’t worry about how you’re going to achieve it, that part comes later. Just find your vision and make it clear. The clearer your vision, the faster you’ll find a way to achieve it.
Why You NEED A Vision
Imagine that every government in the world came together to work on a space mission. The project attracted unlimited funding and support. The most brilliant minds in the world worked together to create the most incredible spacecraft. A vehicle that was capable of travelling incredible distances in seconds. The project was able to hand pick the best team of pilots and research staff from anywhere in the world. Years are spent on the project, until finally one day it blasts off into space, leaving Earth far behind it. It was designed to be capable of amazing achievements, but everyone was so focused on building the spacecraft and hiring the team that they forgot to give the mission commander a destination. So he drifts through space, aimless and unproductive.
You are that spacecraft. You’re capable of more than you’ll ever realise. But without a plan, you are going to drift from place to place, and project to project. You’ll be unhappy.
Hard Work Is Easy When You Have A Vision.
Once you’ve created your vision, it will stay with you. The idea will entwine itself around your brain, becoming so clear that it will influence every thought you have and every action that you take. That’s one of the best parts of having a vision; you don’t need to know exactly how you’re going to achieve it. If it’s clear enough, the journey to achieving your vision will unfold before you. Choices will have to be made but often it will be clear which will take you closer to your vision, and which will take you further away.
When you’ve got a vision, every ounce of effort that you expend in pursuit of it will become enjoyable. Every package you ship, every sale you make and every new client you win will feel great because every single one will take you closer to achieving your vision. You’ll go to work with a smile on your face, and come home tired but fulfilled. That sounds unbelievable, right? But try it. You’ll soon see what I mean.
Why do you think successful people work so hard? It’s because they love their work, not the actual tasks, they could be doing those while employed by someone else. It’s because every hour they spend working on their projects brings them a step closer to achieving their vision. Having a vision is the next best thing to having a superpower.
Make Your Vision BIG
Your vision is yours. You created it, and nobody can take it away from you. Don’t be afraid to make it bold. The more bold your vision, the more powerful it will become. You can achieve ANYTHING. Just two minutes on Google would give you hundreds of stories of millionaires who came from nothing, athletes who’ve recovered from injuries and businesses that have succeeded while their competitors laughed in contempt. Do you think Elon Musk wanted to create a little tech company and employ a couple of part time staff? Do you think Bill Gates wanted to build a few computers? No. They had bold and clear visions for their futures. Their visions were so bold that most people scoffed at them. Don’t worry if people laugh at your vision, usually that’s a sign that they have no idea what to do with their own lives.
When he was growing up, Bill Gates always said that he’d be a millionaire by the time he was thirty. By thirty-one he was a billionaire.
In the future, I’m going to be able to work from anywhere in the world. I’m going to have the time and financial freedom to travel and experiences things that I’ve never been able to do before. Growth Rocket will become the primary resource for aspiring entrepreneurs and will have the power and influence to bring unknown brands to the public eye while helping to fulfil the dreams of hard working business owners.
That's my vision, why not let us know yours? We’d love to hear about it.
